To start, I would ditch the striped rug since it seems to grab the eye a little too much. What is the black object on the ceiling in the upper right? The items on the table under the framed art seem a little scrunched up, perhaps in need of some editing. I’m sure you’ll get some helpful suggestions on this site. Oh, and I agree the TV looks to be oddly placed for viewing.

I like eclectic decor. Here's what eclectic means to me: classic pieces in classic colors. I have a huge wood arts and crafts entertainment center (that houses a hi-fi), a modern (no curves) couch and chair (chair in bright navy velvet, and couch in light blue tweed), tv table in shaker style, another side table in a parsons style, mostly impressionist prints on the walls (that will shortly be changed to modern). The thing that brings all this together is classic styles. I buy good quality stuff that I plan to have for a good long time. My favorite color is bright red, so that color is seen in my throws, table knick knacks, and one art frame.

Thanks, Elaine...I just wondered about doing it in such a small space. All of the mid-century and trad pieces I saved were either good quality or hand made. They just seem to fight with each other when too close together.

I think that you have some nice pieces but way too much furniture in the room.

Try taking out the acrylic table, wicker chair, and the smaller cabinet next to your console table put the mirror, table lamps rug aside for the moment. I like your striped rug, but it needs to be in a hallway or entryway or at the end of a bed it’s not the right shape for your living room.

Put your sofa facing the feature wall & console table, move your bench from under the window and place it where the sofa was and use it for your TV and a few decorative items. If possible I would suggest moving the white bookshelf that’s next to your console table .. maybe it could go opposite the other bookshelf or be used in another room?

Then place your ottoman under or near the window and the armchair on the other side near where the wicker chair was.

Now you might want to space out the artwork above your console a little and add some more colorful pieces in with it to give it more life, your mirror might even work in there somewhere just play around with it.

Place some of your decorative vases on your coffee table and put a small table lamp on the console. You could try a black & white throw or pillow on your armchair to tie it in with your sofa and ottoman.

Omg, this is so helpful. The striped rug was originally meant for a hallway, it’s gone. The acrylic table was going anyway. Am going to spend the day rearranging furniture. Thanks so much
