I broke my bromeliad :(

Hello! I bought this rather impulsively when I was at Home Depot one day last fall. I know that that’s not always the best because they just generically call everything one type. I know there are many different types of Bromeliads. Anyway, when I was transporting it, the top broke off. I don’t know how to tell if they will get any sort of offshoot. Any advice?

Top = what, specifically? The flower stalk?

When buying bromeliads, especially at HD, you should look for offshoots before you buy. If you do not see any at this point, it is difficult to tell whether you will get any later, but if you see them before you buy, then you know you have a better chance.

You may still get offshoots, if your plant is happy and if the offshoots were not removed by HD before they sold it.

Yes, the flower broke off.
Thanks, Lars! The plant has been pretty happy looking for several months, but no activity. Would it be better to plant it in ground? I live in the mid Atlantic

No, don't plant it in the ground. Keep it in the pot. I hang mine in low tree branches in baskets for the summer. Your chance for any blooms on that brom are done. Hopefully it will send up pups and in a year or two those can bloom.
