I am trying to decide if I wait another 2 weeks or just replace it.

It was so pretty.

Mine has a single eye (small pip) but hasn't started extending it yet. Most things are at least pipping in my yard or starting to leaf out (and we expect freezing weather tonight, grrr). So slow to rise and not very vigorous (yet). There may be some hope for yours, but I would at least expect to find an eye or two. And the rest of that family has readily identifiable pips elongating in my yard.

You know, Ken, I did throw a hosta on the patio the other day while I hosed the dirt from the root ball. I was separating a Captain Kirk reversion from a Vulcan of mine prone to reversion. I thought of you and figured the patio was as a good as the driveway and closer to the hose. Lol.

I have kept the sleeping plant in hopes that it needs more time, and I bought another one. If I end up with two lovely Etched Glass hostas, there are worse problems.

Yes, it definitely needs to know whose in control after all!! Hahaha! Of course, you do realize that Ken is joking, for the most part. Have you considered planting it in the ground. If the crown is healthy and roots are good, I don’t see why time won’t tell.

You may want to consider, posting this thread in other forums, like perennials and gardening in shade. There are a number of very knowledgeable gardeners in the perennials forum. They may be able to help as well.

in no sense at all was i joking .... dont know where you came up with that ,... its an old bruce banyai solution to an underachieving hosta... scar the roots on the driveway or sidewalk ... so it releases growth hormones in response ... but regardless of what actually happens... it sure can make you feel better to wing that baturd across the yard a few times ...

After a slow start, it came on well this year but still less mature leaves than it's first year. Hoping for good things next year. Did yours ever show up?

Steve, your Etched Glass looks great! My original one did eventually show up, with very tiny leaves. The new one is also small. After a couple months of observation, I planted the old and new plants together with the hope of fuller plant next year.

The old is the set of small leaves in the front. I should have put it in the ground last year. I always plant the fragrant hostas because they don’t seem to like getting cold roots. I work too much, and never got around to planting this one last year. I am optimistic for next year.

Its planted in a spinout bag due to the presence of Maple trees (and their roots). The Hosta on the lower left is Fragrant Queen. Pic from July 9, 2020, planted in 2019:

Fragrant Queen is a beauty, Steve! I am even more excited about next year. My Fragrant Queen is only 2 years old and still very small.
