My guess is a big raptor. Maybe a Harris hawk?

I love watchin the birds. The California quail have started to show up in the yard again. Idk where they go during the winter because they don’t migrate

Thanks, Kara. I was thinking a hawk too, one who does not care too much about a neat nest! I have seen the CA quail at our local natural area. The chicks must be adorable fluff balls on legs.

Thanks, Kara. I had heard about that. The nest in my pic is near Quartzite. I know eagles like water, and not sure if there are any lakes near there.

Bald eagles are year-around residents here. Oddly enough, in Kamloops proper they prefer an area near the pulp meal, with its various emissions and effluents ponds on one side of the railroad tracks and these denuded sycamores on the other side, bordering the Thompson River. It's stinky time there, but one often can get some good shots of multiple eagles in these trees.
