Looks like you have direct sunlight through the windows. How about a solar light, the kind with the solar panel that sticks to the window? Or you could snake the cord out the front door upper corner and hang the light from the ceiling.

Thank you all so much for your responses. Didn’t think about the tall art. This is great! The solar lights and stain glass windows are nice.

This looks too tight for much of anything. I'd get a nice semiflush overhead light and maybe consider a very narrow shelf for outgoing mail, hanging keys, and things like that... (the wall looks too small to allow for an entry table without interfering with the stairs)

Less is more!

I would remove the blinds from the windows and insert an opaque film to mimic frosted glass. I like the idea of a large piece of art, but nothing else, especially not a mini table or shelf. The space is very compact and needs to feel more open, not closed in. Based off the floor plan shape, I don't think I would add a rug. Frosted glass, large piece of art and a great flush mount will do wonders for the space!

Looks good as is. Wouldn't clutter it up ... but you might consider small Tiffany style stained glass sun catchers (that attach to the small windows with suction cups) if you find some you particularly like.

Suspect the space may be so narrow that framed art on the wall gets bumped. Measure carefully before deciding.

Depending upon the pattern, wallpaper could end up just making a calm space just look "busy" without adding interest to the space. If you like nature scene murals, you might consider visually "enlarging" your space with one of those on the plain wall just before you go down the steps.

What's the style in the rest of your home? That should dictate the type of flush mount.

Unless the rooms are directly connected and visible from each other, there is no reason the entry light should be limited by the style of the kitchen lights. Even then, I'd think pendant lights over an island wouldn't need to equate to any other light aside, perhaps, from metal color.
