My weekend experience with my iron,

i had just finished another batch of masks, washed, dried and pressed. I turned the iron off, turned to scoop up the masks to bring up and package. As I turned, I tripped over my feet and fell flat out on my face. But as I flailed about, I must have jostled the ironing board because the iron flew off and cracked me a good one on my left ankle. Did you hear me yelling??

So I am hobbling about and we had no Easter dinner either.

The iron is a Shark and was working today. It was not very expensive and I got it at Walmart.

Less pain today but stairs are a challenge.

Okay, it must be in the air with bad irons!!! I have a Rowenta that started sputtering and spewing hot water all over my hands this past weekend and leaking from every orifice! That sucker is going in the trash. I also have an older cheap Black & Decker that I pulled out and it heats but doesn't want to steam. It will spray, but doesn't get very hot. I, too, am going to get a new one, but don't know what to get either.

I bought a new iron recently and really regret not getting one with a Teflon coating. It gets gonked up all the time with black stuff that is murder to remove. I assume it is chemicals on fabric that has not been washed. I get a lot of scraps from people and I don't take the time to wash all the little pieces of fabric until the quilt is finished.

I then bought a little travel iron with Teflon and have had no problem with the surface, so I use that all the time. At some point I'll throw the big iron away and buy a different one.

W have had 3 Rowenta's and they were junk, we are now on our fourth. The same thing keeps happening to all of them......where the cord goes into the body, somehow it becomes disconnected or twisted inside and the power keeps going out on the iron. The only thing is, you can't be them for the amount of steam they give off.

I donated my Rowenta to a thrift shop. It was too heavy. I just have an inexpensive Sunbeam and rarely iron.

I swear by this B&D D2030 iron. My first is still going strong after 11+ years in my sewing room (even after being dropped on the wood floor) and I bought a second for the laundry room. It has Auto shutoff but reheats very quickly.

My experience has been like Lois - $20 irons and $100 irons leak and dribble and make inconsistent steam. I just spritz the fabric with water when I need steam.

Definitely not getting a Rowenta for both the reasons that they're expensive and poor reviews. Ordered a new iron from Walmart and getting it delivered. We got a message this past weekend that our area has a high number of cases of Covid 19 so I really don't want to go into a store to get it when they'll deliver it for free. In the meantime I'll use a potholder.

I totally agree with Lois and Donna. I never use the steam option on any iron because I hate the leaking. I always spritz with a water spray bottle and press with a dry iron and the auto shut off is a must! I think my iron is a $25 sunbeam.

I love my T-Fal iron. It has a ceramic sole plate and nothing sticks to it. I do a lot of quilting and use a lot of spray starch. I never have to clean the sol plate. It’s a very comfortable iron to hold also. I believe that Walmart carries them now. I cannot remember where I bought mine...

I avoid nonstick soleplates because they can be scratched by pins and metal zippers.

I love the Rowenta steam generators, but they are expensive and don't last all that long. Right now I am using a yellow Oliso.

Had to laugh at Socks above. Must be from the appliance forum! Quilters irons are on all the time!

I have a Black and Decker Surge Express that's going strong 20 years after I bought it. There is one scratch on the nonstick coating, but that's it (which is pretty good after 20 years). I'll spare you the model number as I'm certain it is not longer available, but I see they're still making the same general iron just with much higher model numbers :-).
