red in small doses for me personally. white black and red work well. where is the teal you mention? Main question...what are the cabinets now?

I am not seeing pics for whatever reason. I happen to love red in the right place this was my kitchen in my old house . I think it mixes well with wood not so sure about adding teal to the mix. Hopefully pictures will arive soon.

Just a thought-are the backs of the cupboard doors flat? Because then you could just flip them.

They are, but the weird metal by the hinge just pops right off and i definitely want to replace the handles anyway. I did this with the matching cabinets in our bathroom and it actually looks pretty good.

I'm with Patricia above about no problem with red and wood, but teal does add a complication. From the pix it looks pretty dark in there, though floor and ceiling are nice, and I like the pops of red. Agree eliminate wallpaper, I'd paint bright white semigloss, for light and easy cleaning. Do you like red/white/blue? What color were you thinking for cabinets? I'd be tempted to go all white ...

Thank you, my only reservation with all white is the style of the rest of the house. All the interior walls are wood and the house is rustic in general. Would all white clash with rustic Farmhouse?

Maybe consider painting the cabinets a soft blue (and paint teal cabinet for consistency) which will make kitchen feel light and fresh and even consider painting the ceiling for a great look.

Given your cream counters, I would suggest a cream subway tile in a beveled finish. To tie in the black fridge, red appliance, blue cupboards and cream counter/tiles, add a great runner and your floors will become more impactful as well. Paint the walls the same cream as tiles.

Hold off on the hardware until room is done and bring home a few samples to see what best works. Lighting can also make a big difference and again wait until you are done to decide.

teal and red is very retro, which is what your house is. Definitely ditch the wallpaper. Ideas for the rest

Per your question re Beige walls/blue cabinets, hope picture below helps. Keep it light as your ceiling and floor are dark. The beige works well with counter also. Now that I’ve seen more of your kitchen - beams, dining set and franklin stove, black hardware and an industrial farmhouse light fixture could work well. The red oven is retro but your house isn’t so I would not go that route. Using a rug or curtains with red may be enough for now and remember your stove will eventually die. I recently spent over 20 hours to prep and paint my kitchen cupboards so it’s a big decision and commitment. Collect ideas before you begin And you’ll start to see what you are drawn to. Good luck.

Sorry I should’ve clarified. I don’t recommend a full retro look with checkered floors. But I do think teal and red go together, especially in a midcentury kitchen with red appliances. You could definitely modernize it though, with the hardware and backsplash you choose.

I like the blue the best. Just a thought - I had a turquoise stove/oven in my first house ages ago. I had the oven spray painted as I couldn't afford to change it at that time. It was easy and cheap.
