HELP with my dining room

Everyone helped me so much in my LR, now I need help in my DR. I have a very orangey hutch, I know, I'm working on trying to figure out paint. Navy or gray? Re-stainI? I just can't decide. In picture 1 you can see the pictures I currently have hung. In picture 2 you can see the size of 2 pictures I want to buy. They are farmed and are a soft gray and blue of old barns.

That wall is approximately 145 inches to the hearth.

I have moved stuff around so much it may not be centered or level.

Just an FYI, frames are also 50% off at Allposters if you prefer print in frame. Always get lowest price. Most things I find on one site, I can find on others. When When/if ready to buy, get free shipping and free returs. I will stop talking now.

    Very pretty in your room…

Here are 2 that both of us like. The one we chose will be framed.

Hi everyone, Julie where did you find the 2 flower prints? Theresa I really like horizontal white barn print, but I think I need vertical, what do you think?  I am drawn to the village scapes that Lola has been posting, but Mike doesn't seem as impressed as I am.

I like it too Karon! Thats two! Plus you two- the most important "likers"!

The pol Ledent is nice but I wish you could find something not so locked into your color scheme. more variety in color. I love this lately

    Then this is around

Pol Ledent is nice but I would just like you to find something that is not so locked into your existing color scheme.

These are also Pol Ledent. A lot of his stuff is really bright. too much?

    These are more subtle

I'm still on the hunt. I don't know why this has become such a big decision for me, but I do want color.

Agree vertical orientation for that spot and also agree landscape with color, I will look too.  I will start by saying I tend to lean toward a large portion of the piece being sky and field and a small portion being building of some sort.  I will post a few shortly...

Karon before you think of color..you really need to figure out if the room will be staying more rustic…what is the overall style in the room..you have rustic wood coffee table and wood shelves…..if you a more contemporary look you may think about a new coffee table it would change the look of that room so much and the addition of a new rug.

I having trouble telling my husband that I don't care for the coffee table he made. I also don't care for the window coverings, but need help with them. As he has gotten older he argues with me, and I can't seem too get any where. Can't live with them, can't live without them. I will figure out what I can do with the coffee table situation and go from there. THANKS AGAIN!!

PS if I start looking for a coffee table, I will drive you crazy!!

No worries Karon it is all fun..we love to help can’t you tell! Look at some family rooms on Houzz and save some with the look you like…that will help you so much.

I think I beg lyrics remember the coffee table wasn't it like oblong? Can you show it to us again maybe you can put it in an entry and put pills on it just sit there and put on shoes or something

Oh Karon, I think a lot of us understand the DH issue! :)

Can you use his coffee table as a little bench somewhere? Maybe by the front door or porch or mudroom area? It does just seem too skinny to be functional as a table.

As far as art goes, if you aren't really sold on any style or subject, I would just find something inexpensive with the room colors so you have a starting place. I think Julie posted some from Kirklands or somewhere that looked good. It doesn't have to be long term art or anything worthy. Gosh, you could even make a Rothko type knockoff with any craft or leftover house paint with colors you love.

Pool, my sister always says...I could paint that!! I always say please do, and she never does it for me.  I have decided to look at coffee tables and see how DH handles it.

I think if you can find another place for his little table then he will take it better. My DH always "jokes" how his stuff gets thrown out, is never good enough. I know it's passive aggressive but also I always think "don't get dumb stuff" lol

Karon, is there room in front of windows for table with plants or other stuffff? Hate to hurt DH feelings. Blame Houzz, need bigger table. Have him build one to your specifications?

Agree with Julie to find rooms you like to give direction. Don’t see how your room reads rustic. Navy blue sofa and white chairs. I am no expert but I think more transitional. You have said very little about what you like and why regarding Art. It is personal. Do things you like bring back memories or feelings of peace, for example. Are there colors you like or don’t like? I like all of theresa’s suggestions. Everdebz too with birds. A still life with vase of flowers could be nice. I for one, need to hear more from you if that’s possible. You said at the beginning you want to re think your Art. Are you tired of what you have? Or decided you just don’t like the vibe it gives the room? It’s ok for this to take some time. My previous comment when you were discouraged away from the green Van Gogh was that you should have something that you like looking at. I still beleve that. Pool, your suggestion makes perfect sense except Karon already has some things that match the room and she said she wants something different. God! I hate to disagree with you! ha ha.

Couldn’t resist posting this. I am looking at GreatBigCanvas because that’s where you like to look. . This is Paul Klee, Rain by the Seaside 19x24 $19.99

Does this appeal to you at all? Too abstract? color?

ooh I like that one Lola!

And how dare you disagree with me LOL just kidding! I'm sure I've missed plenty of comments and don't know what I'm talking about.

Is it strange to not know or understand your own style....???? I love the colors in yours Lola, but is definitely too abstract for DH. I have always enjoyed Tim O'Toole. Definitely looking at the Jim Musil art, but then shape and size throws me into indecision. You have all helped me start thinking about the style that speaks to Mike and I the most. Thank you all for your efforts.

Our pathetic little dog just had oral surgery and I have been really busy babying him.  Love that little guy, but WHAT A BABY.  Again thank you everyone.

lol about husband. Aw for little dog of yours. I like to experiment with options, and move items next to others, not that they will hang there, etc... but to get a closer look. It's not odd all of this, because we like many things, but have to accept/work with what the house is!

Right or wrong, I finally ordered these 2 pictures. I will decide when they get here.

    @Karon

Beautiful art! Can you tell me where you found them?

Karon! I think both of those are beautiful. Good job! I hope they will satisfy when they arrive. Seriously Seriously, both very nice. Where did you find? I see one is called Narrow Valley will search. Poor little dog. We might need to see a pic of him while waiting for Art to arrive.

Here is better view from Greatbigcanvas

Right now I'm planning on framing one of them Julie, and using it in the LR. Then after I decide I'll figure out what to do with the other. I have a whole basement to do eventually. I really like Narrow Valley, but there is something about the little white building in French  Landscape II that appealed to me.

The poor little dog looks REALLY pathetic right now, and he is SUCH a baby, but we love him. He is finally feeling well enough to be groomed on Tuesday!!

Forgot the little dogs pathetic Pic, he is working it....

Here is French Landscape II didn’t realize titlr before. OOhhhh. like it a lot!

Poor little white dog! Yes, working it!

Thanks for making them bigger for me Lola, I think they should arrive around March 5. I'm anxious to see them!! CJ is working it, but I have had to cancel his grooming appointment due to his vet appointments...he's been needy for the past few weeks!

    What do you think?

Do the initial photos show a watercolor-y mottled aged look? Something striking about the white middle of light, etc... which shows that clouds have been around, maybe in storm.

Beautiful Karon. Where is it hung? Are you enjoying it?

    That looks nice

Karon, I am really loving that peice. How do you like it? The colors and the scene are beautiful.

I am going to take the other print I purchased to be framed identical to this one and hang them on each side of the window.

Both of us are enjoying the new art. There is a lot of glare on this print, I'm not sure what to do but will work on it.
