We had a similar experience but with a black countertop installed. It seemed to absorb a lot of the light out of the room that was previously there, and I worried we had made a big mistake. However, it took a couple of months for me to grow accustomed to it, and now I don't notice it and feel we made the right choice. Give it some time. White cabinetry needs a color and contrast balance, and you, unlike so many, have it. One thing that may help you is to maximize the lighting for your space. Install under-cabinet and under-shelf lighting if you don't have it already. Use 4000K bulbs next time you replace for the whitest, brightest light.

The stark contrast of the tile and ceiling catch my eye. Can you hang a plant at the window? ,Maybe place one on the shelf to break up that line? Maybe a different door in white?

That backsplash looks great! We will actually be doing a dark gray backsplash as well in our new build so this gives me hope that I’ll love our choice too. I really like that it’s different than the normal white subway tile that you see everywhere.

its great .look at all the light coming in.....put some small greenplants around that window where you can. once you get items on the shelves that stand out and you love, it will all make sense.

Would I have chosen it? No. If you wanted a high contrast look, I would have steered you to a dark blue in a less reflective material, or a lighter gray ceramic tile. That said, it’s not horrible, your husband loves it, and demolition of glass tile is difficult and dangerous. The remodel is recent. Live with it for a while. If you don’t soften on it and you decide to pull that tile out, have a pro do it.

I think it looks great! I would not switch out the tile. Style those shelves to bring in some color, perhaps install a window treatment with a fun pattern to incorporate some color as well. Honestly, your kitchen is beautiful!

I love the backsplash, and your kitchen is beautiful. What doesnt go is the dark brown flooring, and the dark brown door. I would repaint the door black, or the dark gray of the tile, and leave the floor. Maybe you could put an area rug in there. Once you get the kitchen accessories in, it will all look good.

I think it looks great. You probably just need to get used to seeing the contrast. Once you put items on the shelves and maybe put a white or pale window treatment up it will soften it. I was thinking how great a roman shade would look there. Also, I think the wood floor color is fine, a wood floor pretty much goes with everything, but a black painted door would be a great idea.

I love it and thank god it is not white and no trim on the hood either. Make sure your lighting is all LEDs 4000K and this will be amazing all the time.Add color in different spots like stools and the shelves if you want some color.

No mistake, light grey would not be as nice. Black door would be great. Add color via items on shelves. You just need to get used to it as someone else mentioned.

ITA on painting door, or replacing it if budget permits. Or would the diamond muntins at least pop off? And do you have good under-cab lighting? If so, load up those shelves, and enjoy. Gorgeous kitchen.

Actually, I really like it! I think it will grow on you once you've finished dressing up the kitchen and then living with it for a while.

You've got a beautiful kitchen, but I agree with you that you made a mistake going so dark. Same with the ceiling fan, BTW. Changing from dark gray to light gray is not a fix in my opinion.

Note that there are folks in the dark kitchen camp. It's not my taste.

I really like the backsplash. The ceiling looks darker than the cabinets. It looks shiny too. I think if you repainted your ceiling in a flat, bright white it would make a huge difference
