One of the colors you could consider for your front door is a medium to light green. You would have to coordinate it with the brick and whatever trim color you have for the door. I can't see your trim now from the pic posted so these suggestions could be way off....but green does help it tie into your landscaping.

I happen to love wood doors, but your front door is not the right style for your home. It is a Victorian door, that oval window in the door makes it Victorian-ish style. Right now the color is blending into the brick which has the effect of making your front door recede into the background which is the opposite of what you want (usually). The dark frame of your storm door contributes to this shadow effect. What might help is a little distraction with colorful plants and pots and cushions for the bench.

The address definitely needs to be larger and placed somewhere visible.

Your light next to the front door needs to be much larger - 1/4 to 1/3 the size of the door (about twice its current size).

Having a walkway to the front door that is wide and visible will really help too. Insp pics here as examples:

This is one of my faves for color with brick, IMO white does not do anything for brick. remove the shutters make a wakway from the street to the front door that will allow some more landscaping with some color.. I do not think a victorian door suits the house but something with glass for sure.

I also think you can do better with a new front door. Remove the shutters. All the ideas everyone came up with are good.

What are the sides and back of your house - brick or siding? Can you remove the muntin grills from the windows?

Removed shutters. Repainted garage door. Beefed up front post. Gave you better shrubs.

I like brick and seldom suggest staining or painting it, but if you want a really different look you could change the small amount of brick that you have.

The negative is that unpainted brick requires no maintenance and so you might have to touch up the paint in a few years, but the amount is so small that it's not a big deal for you. Because it's protected by the overhang it's unlikely to get much wear from the weather. Be sure to get paint or stain made for that purpose. Romabio is often recommended by people on this site. I have never used it.

I assume the roof will not be replaced, so choose a colour that looks good with both the roof and the siding.

Some very good ideas. I might add that a few well- located trees in the front yard makes a house more inviting, and that post dead center in the porch bothers me.

Hahaha! It bothers my husband so much too! Any ideas on what to do with that post? It’s a load bearing post so I don’t think we can get rid of it..

It depends what kind of foundation is under the concrete. You may have to dig down next to it to make sure. If it's a continuous foundation wall under the front edge of the porch, it wouldn't be too difficult to replace the one post with two posts in different locations. The framing for the beam above would need to be verified for continuity. If it's an individual footing under the existing post, then it's more work.

Inexpensive update it is just painting the siding and front door.

Even less expensive to paint the brick and garage doors. The siding goes all around the house.

So many people have asked about that green colour. The photographer does not know. Here is one person's comment. "I've been working on finding a similar paint color for my home's exterior and have purchased 7 quarts of different blue/greens and gray/green in the process to sample out. This home's (above) paint is probably a custom color but Sherwin Williams "Pewter Green" or "Retreat" might be close." Notice how the colour looks a bit different in each photo.
