Painting red brick fireplace

I could really use and advise. I decided to update our red brick fireplace, but it is not going as easy as I expected.

I am attaching original fireplace that I whitewashed. I didn't like the look so I repainted it. Now fireplace looks ok, but doesn't go well with the rest of the room. I would like to make changes to fireplace when it is still all taped up.

For reference: wall color BM Classical Gary 200% strength, trim around the house BM White Dove. Mantle and shelves BM Charcoal Slate and last paint on the brick is BM Gray Owl with tint of Charcoal Slate.

Paint the fireplace, shelves AND mantel (not mantle, btw) White Dove.

Paint all the aforementioned elements black. Or Classic Grey. And don’t forget the hearth!

I personally would have done the fireplace in Charcoal Slate - the same the shelves and mantle.

what is it that you dont like? I like what you did, looks great to me. maybe one more coat.

It is a small room so I wanted fireplace to stay light. I think that now fireplace color doesn't go well with wall color. I will not change wall color, so need to do something with fireplace. My daughter chose the rabbits :)

the white paint works fine with the wall color. your trim is white and it works. all colors you have are neutral and work together. if you want to keep it light, I think the white is the way to go, but you have to love it. one other thought is to add white accessories in the bookcase so you have more white throughout.

take a look at this wall color with the white fireplace... reminds me of your wall color...works great and is light feeling

one more thought... the trim on the mirror above the fireplace may be throwing the look off a bit. maybe take the mirror down and re evaluate.

sorry, one more thought... move the rabbit prints to where the mirror is... just lean them up against the fireplace for now just to see the look.

I think a big part of the problem is that the upper wall colour has a yellow undertone and the dark grey mantle has a blue undertone so they clash. When the bricks were in their natural state, they had a slight yellow undertone as well so you didn’t notice the clash so much, but the stark colour of the fireplace now really brings it into contrast. Plus the new grey of the fireplace is also on the blue side of the grey spectrum as it appears in the picture.

Perhaps if you redid the fireplace in a shade a tiny bit darker than the walls it would work better.

I agree with you; there are two different undertones. I tried Rewer Pewter, but that didn't look good either. Would you have a color in mind to recommend?
