Almost finished with my Woodland Hosta Bed

I am almost finished with the main part of my new bed. I have 2 large cement swans and the path on the back side to put in place. Next phase will be stacking cement "rocks" in the waterfall area and adding ferns (I put some Woodwardia ferns all along the waterfall area banks last week and they are still doing okay. They were a volunteer in the perennial garden and had spread every where.) I still have some plants in pots that need to be planted but I am getting there.

There are cement squares 12" x 12" under the bench. We had to build up the garden timbers due to the slope. I had made 8, 20" square stepping stones 2 years ago with princess tree leaves impressed on them. I need to make some more this summer and maybe some with ferns pressed into them. My GDaughter has grown out of her pre school sized swing set so she gave it to me last week to put a porch swing on. Another project. She likes the new garden but she really likes to feed the fish in the pond and watch the toadpoles.

We have spent so much time out there that the dog (a yorkie with a soft coat) runs out to the bench when I let her outside to potty. She sits on the bench or a chair as we work. She has only crossed one of the bridges 1 time. I don't think she likes the gaps in the boards.

That is a wonderful woodland garden. It looks idyllic. I hope you post pictures all spring and summer as the plants fill in. Wow!

That is looking so sweet. I'm glad you said you had more plants to plant. It needs more Hostas. Lots more - J/K (almost). Looks like you have a few with a little size on them already. What a great place to watch them grow up.

I'd feel right at home in your garden..I've lived on my wooded lot for 15 years..the woods are pretty anyway but when we plant hostas, create paths, stone walls etc they're beautiful..

Looks like a great place to hang out. No wonder your Yorkie likes that bench. It's going to look so good when your woodland plants (Hostas!) fill in the spaces.

Thanks for your positive comments. This garden has been a 30 minutes at a time work in progress. It just shows what you can do in small increments when they are all strung together. Baby steps will eventually get you there. Today was not a good day for me but I pushed myself and got 3 daisy gardenias, 5 strawberry begonias and 4 foam flowers planted and a few weeds pulled. Then it rained and is still raining so everyone is getting watered in real good.
