My only other option would be a slim cabinet on this was leading to hallway....I’ve had a slim armoire there previously and I actually like it in that spot even though it’s not ideal...not AS tight as it looks in the pic.

How are you going to get the cabinet to match your current kitchen cabinets?

The only way an additional cabinet will look good is if it is the same make, style and color as the other cabinets.

My brother is a paint contractor and they do miracles with old cabinets...eventually my plan is to have the cabinets painted or stain darken to get rid if the orange...OR do I do a storage cabinet of some sort, small armoire or hutch to use there but not trying to tie into or “match“ current cabinets...does that make sense?

Honestly I think it wouldn't look good. I'd rather see the slim cabinet you mentioned in the other room.

I’m thinking that too design girl. I think it would look better than trying to add one next to the kitchen. knowing myself, it would bug me because it wouldnt look right..

Yes, you could do a cabinet on that wall, but I wouldn't go too large.

I have a pie safe for extra storage. It might not be your style, but it does work with my oak cabinets. Mine is Amish and several years old - probably they have some newer styles out:

So, I like the idea of a piece of furniture for extra storage. I would suggest that before you spend any money, spend some time cleaning out all your cabinets. I have a small kitchen and I need to keep on top of excess cookware, outdated cereal boxes etc. I also have an extra closet off the laundry - just a step from my kitchen and I cleared off two shelves to use as a pantry to store extra food since we are supposed to limit our grocery trips at this time. I like the extra storage so much I plan to keep it that way. If you have a similar space, consider the same.

Having said all that, I have successfully stained new pieces of cabinetry to match my cabinets. The hood, plate rail and spice boxes were bought unfinished and stained to match my cabinets. My cabinets are oak and as happens with oak the boards do not all stain the same so there was already mild variation in wood tones in my cabinets.

I am concerned the new cabinet, even if it matches, might look like it is creeping into the dining space, even if there is room, but I'm not standing in your kitchen.

Beth has EXCELLENT ideas. Either one would be better than the ideas you were thinking about.... I guess that is why she is a PRO! If cost is a factor, I like her idea of the cheap base cabinets with trim added.... paint them white & have brother paint your cabinets for a completely new/fresh look! Good luck

OMG!!! Thank you Beth...those inspiration pics are amazing. Great ideas!! Gives me a lot to consider. I was thinking Ikea bookcase/cabinets as a possibility because they are slim...and I need slim.

And yes, definitely need to go through my cabinets and purge/get more organized.

ETA: I've been saving before and after kitchens with oak cabinets trying to decide if I'd want to go white or black on cabinets, or darkening up the stain...light counter tops/dark countertops.

It will be hard to match cabinets exactly so a painted wood piece like Beth's examples be best. You might need to rotate your table in order to use a bench and stay centered under the light fixture. I would match your dining set or paint it to whatever you use as storage piece.

Please hire a professional decorator. You have a clear plastic tablecloth. These people commenting are not your friends. We cannot all be good at everything.

Maybe not your friend IRL but I get that these were in progress or before snapshots and won't judge you for plastic table cloths that are daily practicalities for Mom of small children.

I would do the cabinet to fit all along the wall where the table is.

Don’t do a pantry cabinet. Buy a tall display cabinet/hutch (IKEA even has them for a few hundred bucks) and put your dishes in it so it looks good and makes sense in a dining room, and store your food in your dishes cabinets.
