Very lovely indeed. I used to have this rose but don't remember it ever looking this pretty. I remember it as having a more uniform and somewhat darker color, and the play of light and dark on your bloom is very eye-catching.

The rose we were sent (twice) as 'Levison Gower' was something with small, messy dark red blooms with an overall unpleasant look. This is quite lovely.

Ingrid - I only get this coloring once in a while, usually when it's cooler.

Beautiful Lisa! That is an interesting bloom. Lovely color. Did it keep the less ruffled shape as it aged?

I wish I remembered, suncoast! It was a couple years ago, and I’ve not seen one like it since. I kept my eyes peeled for another double nosed bloom for the rest of that year, but it was a one-of. I haven’t pruned my Leveson Gower, except for one cane that insists on blocking my little “pathway”. It has remained compact, and I SO appreciate the roses that don’t need pruning. I like having a Tea that doesn’t take up too much of my precious little space. I’d grow all the big ones if I had........ you know, enough space, unlimited water, energy, and on and on. Seems like I don’t hear Leveson Gower mentioned very often. It’s worthy of a spot in the garden. I don’t spray my roses, and there’s usually no need. Do you need to spray your Leveson Gower? If I recall correctly, Dr. Manners needs to spray for BS. Mine came from Burlington, btw.

Oddly, my Leveson Gower blooms are currently looking the worst I’ve seen. The only thing I can think of, is that the cool days, followed by an unprecedented 5” of rain in a matter of days, and then sudden 90F days caused something to go amiss. For the first time, the buds look like they may not open at all. Like Ingrid, I see black spot on some roses. We don’t normally get black spot here. Seeing this BS gives me renewed respect for rose growers who grow roses in conditions ripe for BS. To confuse me further, one fairly obscure antique rose has beautiful open blooms for the first time ever. I think I saw a total of two fully open blooms in the (over three?) years it’s been here. I was given this rose as a mature specimen, so it’s not a case of immaturity. I’m seeing it loaded with fully open, darling blooms. The two roses are located only about 10 feet from one another, in very similar conditions. LG’s buds are looking their worst, while the other looks amazing for the VERY first time in my garden. I don’t quite know what to think. Anyway, Leveson Gower has been a delightful rose for me. I’m happy to see it growing happily elsewhere, as well. Lisa
