Dendrobium chrysotoxum

A close relative of the the plant Jane posted Den. aggregating, this one has taller canes (about 12-18”) and has fragrant flowers.

I‘ve had this plant for years and could never get it to flower, don’t know what I did differently this year but I hope I can repeat it next year.

Here‘s a close up of the flower showing the detail in the lip.

James, this is beautiful! One of my holy grails, just not easily attainable in my area. At least an two hour drive to my closest orchid greenhouse :(

Thank you. It Shouldn’t be too hard to find one, I bought this at Parkside in PA. They have been closed for a number of years so that will give you an idea of how long it took to get this to flower.

Perkasie!! Only 15 minutes from me actually...that’s a shame the place is closed

So James, was that Parkside with the two original guys or the Parkside that went downhill quickly after they sold? I purchased several nice orchids from them when the two guys were running the business, not sure if any are still around??? Same thing happened to Oak Hill Gardens @10 years ago, they sold and then the new owners quit selling on-line (maybe quit selling orchids altogether), which is too bad as I still have several nice species plants from the original OHG.

Nice plant, I'm going to have to wait at least another year for my aggrevatum.

It was the original owners, they used to do an orchid show in summer. I think I got it at the last show the old owners had. I remember hearing that the new owner was diagnosed with cancer a year or two after taking over. I went a few times after they took over, they seemed nice and I still have a few plants from there. I wonder what became of the greenhouses. They had a nice set up.

I’m still upset about Oak Hill Gardens. I always looked forward to getting their catalog every year. Don’t know what happened there.

James, I love it. I'll have to look around for one. Where do you live? North/South?

I live in Northern New Jersey.

My aggregatum did not flower this year, it usually does in March. I also have a farmeri which is another close relative and for me the easiest to flower.

James, where do you get your orchids from up your way? Waldor? Have you been to Silva?

I have been to Silva’s a few times, in the past they have done a few events like the Shore Orchid Fest or re potting events. Waldor is a bit too far and they are only open by appointment.

Last few years I just wait for the local shows, NJOS which is at Rutgers in Jan. and DCOS in Homdel in Feb.

Hm, I’ve been to Waldor a handful of times and never with an appointment...I believe Friday’s and Saturday’s they are open to the public, if you ever feel like making the trek!
