Yay! Makes me happy to see somebody's peach in colder zones actually blooms!

I'm in the midst of an experiment, having no blooms from in-ground planted trees last year (and by none I mean zero) -- I have apricot and peach trees planted in large pots, I pulled them into the barn for the winter, they are now going in and out depending on the weather. It's a drag but if I actually get some fruit it will be worth it. If not, they I'll just plant them somewhere and throw up my hands in defeat, don't know what else to do. They're Redhaven peach and Westcot apricot BTW -- so capable of fruiting up here. The nectarine (Fantasia) I have planted in the ground has a very small amount of blooms this year, and it was a very mild winter, so that's not good.

mxk3: Where are you at? These two are Indian freestone. The trees survived two nights of 30 below temps two winters ago. We had fruit two seasons ago. These are in their 5th year. I grew them from seed. I wasn't especially fond of the fruit, but maybe their small size was due to the fact the trees were young. They are very hardy. I lost my other peach tree, Contender, to the devastating winter two seasons ago.

mxk3: Have you been to western Michigan peach country? I have not forgotten when I was returning home for the summer from law school. Each dollar was precious then. I had so few. I stopped at a roadside stand in Alabama next to a peach orchard, and had the most delicious full-fruit flavor I had ever experienced in my early to mid-20s, until I tried and successfully grew a few peaches in my NE Iowa backyard 30-years later. At first I was successful. And later it was sporadic. Peaches are the greatest fruit. I have to replant sometimes, but each effort is worthwhile.

Yep, the western side of the state has some good fruit growing, that's for sure! I don't know what happened to mine since I posted -- I think the flowers got toasted by the two-night freeze we had, although I did pull it back into the barn those nights so not sure. The flowers are browned, and the remaining buds just don't want to open. Sigh...

Too bad for you. I can't imagine growing a tree in a pot, though. How large of a pot? I am not sure how wide and deep peach tree roots grow although I have removed three from my yard. I didn't - I don't have the equipment - I hired it done.
