Yes. Windows are here. Actually in the elevation the opening was even bigger. I didn't know max width would be 7'. Looking back, I shouldn't have ordered the windows. Look around for someone who makes wider window. Too late now.

How are lateral forces being accounted for in the dsign? Especially if you are in a sesmic designed regulation area? This sounds like you need a moment frame. Not ”windows”. Windows require framing. Not a single structural beam across the opening with no interim framing. And why are you even ordering anything? Especially such a critical as fenestration?

Can you post a pic of the space the windows go into? I'm still having a hard time understanding the problem. Can you block between the windows with piece of trim which would spread the window apart and fill the space? Or can you have 2 inches of drywall on each side? Seeing the plan, elevation, and space as it sits now would help.

Not necessarily . . . but it would probably be the first alternative that came up for evaluation.

An idea came to me after I had just about given up. I fattened a vertical beam at the other end by 4" and brought the wall in 4" leaving outside wall 4" thicker. 4" was small enough that the thick wall doesn't stick out.
