Bathroom help suggestions

last modified: 6 years ago

this is a bathroom we are trying to update. No linen closet so I’m not sure where to put towels. The tub is to the right and what you don’t see if a door. I mainly need suggestions on what to store towels in in a small bathroom and the floor is original 1983 grey tile. Should I replace that and to what?

Do you have a wall space just outside the bathroom? A bookshelf with 3 shelves with basket cubes could hold folded barh towels. Easily accessible by those going in before their bath, but hidden from view for rest of household.

You can install a 42" tall wall cabinet above the toilet for storage

There are also a variety of towel racks available. These from Crate & Barrel

A linen cabinet above the toilet might be your best solution. Even a floor mounted unit like below would work although this particular one does lack a bit in style and design.

We have several small bathrooms. Don’t forget the back of the door or a shelf above the door. Often forgotten space. You can even put a towel rack above the toilet.

We used pretty Moen hooks on the back of the door for the three towels we use every day. I think this bathroom is pretty great looking already.

Each person who regularly uses this bathroom needs a hook for h/h bath towel and a bin or basket for personal items, preferably inside the vanity since I saw no drawers.

If there are children in the house, medications should be stored in a high location. A mirrored-door medicine cabinet over the sink is a good choice if the current mirror doesn’t hide a recessed cabinet.

For daily usage your towel rack and hooks behind door may suffice. I think you are looking for additional towel storage? If you want extras handy, add something like this (but in white) which works well and add washcloths also. You could add a basket for small toilettties, makeup, soap, etc

For more towels, place inside vanity in a basket. Store the balance with your linens.

In regards to tile, is it in ok shape? It looks pretty neutral. If you want a change, maybe look for inspiration pictures especially if you want to repaint. Consider your budget and that will narrow things down. A classic look and not expensive are round penny tiles and will work really well with your round mirror.

Is it a mosaic tile floor? I like those- very midcentury modern

I think I‘d just replace the towel shelf over the toilet and add hardware to the vanity and be done here.

What style are you going for? I think you posted your kitchen and said farmhouse?

I have not read all the discussion but I am confused. You have 2 very different pictures of bathroom. Are you looking for storage solution for the 2 bathrooms? A floor plan of the gray bathroom and either a floor plan or more pictures of the pink bathroom would help.

I think the most recent photo was just to show me the kind of tile floor in the bathroom. I’m assuming the original photo in the post is a listing photo, and Maybe they haven’t moved in. The original post asked about storage and the floor.

Yes Katie B thanks for explaining. This bathroom are my children’s so I’m not sure i want to do farmhouse in this one. Maybe a fun kids bathroom

So, the gray bathroom is a photo listing of a house you bought and plan to move. Is it possible to see more pictures of that bathroom or even better to see a floor plan?

In that case I wouldn’t do much. Get a fun shower curtain and towels. Add hardware to the cabinet if it doesn’t have any. You can find a lot of cutesy knobs online. The above posters gave a lot of good storage advice. Add a piece of colorful artwork.

I just hate to see good tile get ripped out, especially when it‘s charming and probably better craftsmanship on the install than you’d get today.

You seem to have a little wall at the end of the tub (opposite to the toilet), do you think you could do something like below (just wider so a rolled towel would fit)?

EDIT: You don't really need shelves. You could just pile the rolled towels. If you want, you could add one shelf at the bottom to store tp.
