why was it wilted

I have no idea why it was wilted. All the other leaves were perfectly healthy and intact. Just this one in the middle of the plant.

My Fire Island and Island Breeze (a sport of Paradise Island) did that this year. The Island Breeze (in ground) has died to the crown, and the Fire Island (in pot) lost one eye. I think it is related to that line of plants rising from dormancy super-early, as they tend to. They suffer cold damage on the tender first leaves. Also, mine get too much sun for the first few weeks because they emerge and fully unfurl before the oak trees leaf out. My shade garden depends on the oak trees having leaves. I try to protect Fire Island and Island Breeze from the elements, but I am somewhat fed up with the Fire Island lineage. I have to protect them from frosts, sun, and wind. I am not replacing Island Breeze.

The hosta was not in the sun. It was on a wire shelf under the roof formed by my upstairs neighbor's balcony floor.

It doesn't appear to be the dreaded "H" word to me. It has no ink bleed. It looks like cold damage to me.

Watch it. If that is the only leaf with problems, then it's just an anomaly. That's one of the beauties of growing in pots. You're not likely to spread anything as you don't use tools very often.
