I put all mine in the ground a couple weeks ago. We are getting a few cold nights but hoping they’ll be fine. Our lowest is forecast right about freezing though. Our grass has been frosty every morning , but roses look great.

If they are potted and you can move them into cover why take the chance. Move them into a shed or garage if possible until it warms back up. I'm in Michigan zone 6 and our last frost date is May 15th. I'll plant then. And this year who knows, lol!

Small own roots don't have much if anything woody above ground and mostly feeder roots below ground. It's not just the air temperature you're worried about, it's the temperature at the level of the feeder roots and if they freeze- the plant dies.

I agree with Seil to wait. I was out in my beds earlier this week and the upper half inch was warm, but below that ....cold. No earth worms moving at depth, at all.

We will put remay over the vegetable garden (tomatoes and peppers for starts) for the next two nights, and I've checked on projected wind directions (From the NW darn it all) and will try to keep wind off the very tender tomatoes).

Man, these are great responses!!! I am following your sage advice and put them all in my cool solarium until at least next week. I had enough losses on my cuttings due to the November cold snap to risk any more. I get sick thinking about those, some of which I'd babied for well over a year or even two and many of which were gifted and not easily available. :-(( Even my newly received ARE plants went there which is probably for the best anyway to acclimate them to our cooler spring. What a pain! I'm trusting those in large pots to the glass vestibule by the front door. Fingers crossed. KY, it's crazy, isn't it? My neighbors have already been swimming in their pool!!!! Ann, I think my soil is warm enough for large roots since I transplanted some earlier, but great point for these babies. I'm a bit regretting I transplanted a baby Teasing Georgia a few weeks ago, but hopefully she'll make it. I piled mulch on her so she'll well cocooned. Do any of you have the scary frozen leaves on your bushes? I've never seen this before, but many of mine were newly planted last year.

Your neighbors have been swimming already?! With wetsuits? Lol This year is so crazy, one of my neighbors opened their pool in March. It's snowing right now. A lot of people opened their pools early when they could find a pool guy during coronavirus quarantine. Most of pool services are closed.

It was 80 last weekend. I think just their kids got in. You know how that is, plus it kept them occupied, but it was looking mighty inviting!
