I’d be more concerned that there’s no ventilation above the cooking surface...and, that you have seating across, and on the same plane as the stovetop...including a seat for a very young child.

Do you have under cabinet lighting? You’ll be surprised how much brighter your kitchen will be with them.

Also, removing the fussy valence above the sink, will lighten the appearance of the kitchen, and allow in more light.

There is a vent that raises up behind the gas range and vents outside and we do have under cabinet and over cabinet LED lighting.

This is a very nice kitchen. I might change the Cabinet hardware. Remove the arched valance. If you really want to change something, maybe paint just the island? New runner?

Definitely remove the valance before deciding to do anything else. It's difficult to suggest color options without seeing adjoining spaces. I assume your kitchen opens to your family room. How is that space decorated? What colors do you love?

I probably would not paint your perimeter cabinets. It's a huge expense and your cabinets appear to be in great shape. Have you priced a repaint from a professional?

I really like those colors - would you just do the island in an accent color and the rest white? We've received a few bids and feel they are priced fairly well.

You could also do the bank of cabinets where your double ovens are in the accent color... a little bit of color-blocking. I think it would look pretty.

I was thinking what megs said. Your island and the cabinets where your ovens are. Of course, all white perimeter cabinets would be safe. Wood and blue looks nice too, if you want to keep some wood. You have a lot of options.

I didn’t notice the white built-ins in your tv room before, even though you mentioned them. Yes, all white and a fun color on the island. Your island is black? You could just leave that if it’s in good shape and do the others.
