No butterflies but I've heard Giant Killer Hornets love them. ^_^

I have fond memories of climbing the big China berry tree in my grandmother's back yard many years ago. I seem to remember that the flowers had a sweet scent.

My grandmother use to laugh at how the mocking birds got drunk eating the fermented berries.

Most of the China berry trees have a shaggy outline, but some of them have a tight umbrella shaped form like THIS. I recall reading that this was a natural mutation that occurred Texas, but I can't find anything about that on the internet. Does anybody know about this?

The flowers do have a sweet scent, and the petals drift down so picturesquely.

Too bad it's pest tree - and the birds help spread all those fertile seeds everywhere.

Can't find the source or quote right now but I remember reading an allusion to a grandmother cutting a switch from the china ball tree for disciplining errant youngsters... maybe a biography or collection of essays?
We don't have one but I can see the top of a china berry tree in a neighbor's yard and have learned to recognize its seedlings popping up in my yard.

The wood is soft too - and beaks easily in high winds.

Many consider it an invasive tree. It can be a nuisance tree too. I do love it flowers in spring..
