Might try Silene antirrhina. I think vulgaris usually has greenish pink buds. These are strongly green. Native to the USA. But certainly silene.

I am glad you posted the question, I've often wondered what it is, I have it growing out in the pasture (and yes it does look weedy).

It could be Silene latifolia which has slightly smaller bladders than vulgaris, and vulgaris bladders are more pinkish. The main difference is that latifolia has hairy leaves and stems, while vulgaris is completely smooth and hairless. After vulgaris, latifolia is the most common species on the loose in North America. The photo isn't clear enough to see the hairs, but I suspect they are there. In my area latifolia is a lot more common than vulgaris.

I vacilated between vulgaris and latifolia. I decided on vulgaris but I'm by no means sure.

I have S. v. here and it has a very deep root. Be prepared. Attractive in a meadow but a horrid garden weed that will spread by seed.

I've got those too. Just one of oodles of weed-flowers here that I don't pay much attention to (but let alone).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me here in the British Isles both these campions are charming natives. They're not considered weed species in their natural habitat and they cause no trouble.

I do end up needing to pull those out because I have to plant annuals in there but I hesitated and posted here for the ID because I thought it looked pretty. I like the fig looking buds. I have lychnis miqueliana in my garden but it is called silene now? Or just a synonym?

The genus Lychnis was absorbed into Silene but a lot of people are still calling it Lychnis. Is your miqueliana orange like the photo? I see another nursery sells Silene miqueliana with white and pink petals.

Ok I’m more used to calling it lychnis. And yes they are orange, I’ll post them once they bloom.

Ok here is my lychnic miqueliana. They don’t really thrive in my garden but self seeds every year to make one lanky single stemmed plant that just dies after it flowers and seeds.
