Looking for suggestions/ideas on Garage placement

I bought my first home last fall and it's a beautiful old home sitting on nearly an acre of land near the center of town.

It's on a sloped lot. Considering either building an attached garage directly off the back of the house, but that would take out our back deck and a nice little patch of lawn. This option would be great for daily driving and could also tie in a first-floor mudroom/bathroom that we'd like to add.

It's a narrow lot until you get further back, where there's an existing large shed (but it's set on piers so it would be tough to convert to a garage).

Back there I'd have a lot more space to build a nice large barn/garage. It would be a nice place to have a woodshop and some cars.

The front of the house is a steep hill, potentially could put something there but it seems like the earthwork involved would get expensive very quickly and I doubt it would be aesthetically pleasing.
