I would get rid of the sheers,I would go for a pale gold with a small design,then antique look chunky poles.Get rope tie backs.Triple pleat curtains.

GORGEOUS room! Do you need curtains? Is there a privacy issue? The windows, woodwork and transom windows so beautiful! Why do you want to cover those features? If you feel you must have curtains I would do just straight panels on the sides and leave the rest exposed so you can appreciate the home's details. I might select a different mirror, however. Maybe something round or oval and in a gold tone to pick up the gold in your china.

You didn't say, so I am assuming you are keeping your current valances and just want to change the curtains. So with that in mind, I think this traditional elegant room is calling for a beautiful rich dark green velvet for the side panels. Then, paint the crown around the room that includes the frames at the top of the valances a gloss dark green to tie into the velvet color. This will give your whole room a new look! Stunning!

I would remove the valances, and just do simple clean panels up to ceiling..on the two side windows maybe add roman type shade or like in photo..

I would get rid of the sheers and do side panels in a lovely silk (faux silk), color do your choice. I wouldn't change anything else in that room, it's gorgeous.

I would also like to see a crystal lamp on the buffet and a large crystal bowl on table. On windows no swags, no valances; room is formal, keep it that way - I want to have dinner at your home with great company, good food, wonderful laughter and fresh flowers and candles, what time should I be there!?!

Lovely room, it warrens an elegant treatment. I could see an asymmetrical swag on either side of mirror and on long window 4 swags with a pelmet in center.

Looks like you have built-in cornices, so I understand wanting to continue using them. Here's a room where they've simply been closed off at the bottom.
