Another freeze warning for tonight

last modified: 6 years ago

Good grief, we should be having lows in the 50s at this point in May! And right now it is sleeting lightly.

So, depending on source, the low tonight is forecast to be between 30-33F (NWS says 30, from 2am to 9am). The cloud cover is heavy right now, but it is supposed to clear by this evening.

I covered as much as I could with sheets and insect barrier on Friday night. I had already lost all the pears and mandarin apricot in the freeze 2 weeks ago which was only forecast for 32F.

Blueberries and some apples are in full bloom. Tart cherries, peach, apricot, plums have fruit set, Other apples and the native plum are near or just past petal fall.

I am really debating whether to try to cover things again, or just take my chances. The tables from MSU aren't much help, as they seem to reference only short periods below freezing - not 7 hours!

The bright side (I guess) would be that I won't have to struggle with defeating the marauding squirrels and racoons this year.
