Wanted to add, your counters are gorgeous...nice choice!!

Matching whites is a complicated task. Let’s just stick to subways because it is what you want and the best choice. I know you say you do not want gray, but I think you need to bring in some lighter gray subways that are the color of the veining in the countertop. You might be surprised. What about glass subways? What is the paint color above the cabinets? It looks beige. I like the countertops and they should be highlighted

The first three photos show backsplashes that do not work with your counter. The colors are all wrong. I want my backsplash to match one of the main colors in my counter. That can be very hard to find, so the last two kitchens I have done for myself have had the same granite for both the counter and the backsplash. No pattern clash, no color clash, no dilemma.

Hi Amy. Everything is looking good. If you are going to choose white, it has to match the white in your cabinets. If you are worried that that is too much white (it isn’t) you can try to match the veining in your counter material. This is Fireclay Tile but you can find similar glazes elsewhere.

Ann Sacks Savoy Standard Field 3x6, 3x12, 4x8 or other shapes in colors Chalk, Ricepaper or Linen may work. Matching grout. Download the catalog

The wall color is Spanish olive, cabinets are dove white, and the countertops are opus white

I love the quartzite. When you look at the edge of the countertops it looks light gray against the brighter white of the dove white cabinets, right? Is there any possibility of getting Opus White quartzite tile?
Do you have to do the backsplash now? What if you painted the backsplash area Spanish olive and lived with it for a while. Because until you find something you love and you feel it is the perfect choice, my advice is to wait

Thank you, I love it too, so does the dog. Lol. The kitchen is small so I don’t think I would like the backsplash to match I think I’m going to go with a white subway that matches and use a gray or silver grout to break up the white I’ve always wanted subway tile

Thank you everyone for your help. love the countertops, it took while to find a large enough slab but finally found it And only 3200 installed with the doggy station lol. I love subway tile so I will find one that matches,

Now that is one fancy dog bowl chow down!

The previous layout left some unfinished flooring , I needed to come up with something

Amy, Fireclay has a "foundations" line of tile that comes in nice muted shades... it's less expensive than their regular tile: https://www.fireclaytile.com/collections/foundations

Their Tusk or Gardenia color may work for you.

do you know what temp this lighting is?? it seems a little yellow is making the green wall color somewhat ghastly looking. a cooler light would let this actual color show through. (like the under cabinet lights. those seem cooler? or is it because there is no green wall?)

I don't really care for the heavy looking marble mosaics w/your countertop. I'd go w/something w/ a little color.

Fireclay tile has some nice choices. (and they can do any shape or size tile)

Gypsum

in a scallop

some of the green glazes

Some others:

What about this one? 2x10 from Ivy Hill (Or Newport)

this soft green glaze would be very pretty.

I also like picking out the darker gray/green tone in the veining and doing a tile in that color. rather than a traditional subway layout, do it in a stacked layout (like shown)

Orion Noir 3x12 porcelain (TileOasis)

this is a stacked layout. I like this shade of green too (Fireclay tile)

gray/green glass tile

i agree with others: what u have picked out so far is not a great fit with counters. either too busy or wrong color.

i think going with a white, any white, will be very difficult search since your cabs and counter are different white's. from my monitor, your counter's underlying color looks gray. can u match one of them, i would think so, but then the other one not matched will stick out like a sore thumb.

that's why i think some suggested a light gray or blue. what other colors are in the kitchen? what is the wall color? what colors do u plan to accent the kitchen with? find another color, other than white to use. but be sure its the same temp as the counters and cabs. (either "cool" or "warm").

your lighting in the original post, 5th pic. seems to cast a yellow light and the lighting in the 6th pic seems to cast a 'cool' shade. get all your lighting on the same Kelvins to start, then pic a b/s. your lighting temp will play a major role in how everything is viewed in your kitchen (cabs, floors, counters and b/s).

Wow. Lots of great options. I think it’s the lighting in the pictures, I don’t even know why they look so fuzzy. Thank you

I can't wait to see what you decide. Your counter is beautful-

I just have to commend your creativity with the dog station. I couldn't quite see it until I enlarged the picture. Brilliant!!!

My guy put this board together with white subway tile and warm gray grout. in trying to cut it the tile fell off. How do you feel about the hue of white with the cabinets ? Natural light and under cabinet lights

I think it looks good. Seems to match the cabinets and the warm gray grout pulls in the counters.

It's plain white subway tile. How does it look? it's fine. it looks like all of the other white subway tile/white cabinet kitchens.

You can't go wrong with it. The white hue seems to work well w/the other elements

why don't you do a more modern looking, longer tile? that 3x6 is so overdone

I still think the Ivy Hill 2x10 would look so much better. and if you don't like the green/gray, do the white one. i think your countertop is too modern looking for that farm style 3x6

Love this last one from Beth. Gorgeous!

can I use the gray grout with those tiles? I’ll try and pick a sample up tomorrow

yes you can. Try Oyster Gray from Custom, or Map-Warm Gray.

you can find these tiles at home depot (online I think,) Wayfair, (some sell them as Newport Polished) and Tilebar has them listed as Seaport Polished tiles. Tilebar.com will send you 5 samples of any of their tiles for $5, so pick up a few other samples you like if you look there.

get the 5 samples. see if you like this one too. It would look great w/your counter color

I like the Cadenza line too. I have a sample of the Wales Gray

https://tilebar.com/cadenza-wales-gray.html

trust me, get some samples of these three, plus two of the others you like on tilebar. post pics of them when you get them and see how much better they look.

Bellami Grigio

London Spring. I've seen this installed. it's very pretty

A fancy, busy or very colorful counter needs a simpler, milder, less busy backsplash that does not fight against the counter for attention. OR, you can use the same material for both counter and backsplash.

Have you considered adding a narrow line of stainless tile to break up the white subway tile and bring in color of counter? Or just a square or rectangle if tiny stainless tiles placed every few subway tiles? Did this in my last kitchen but can’t find a pic. Loved it, had a black counter. Good luck!

Thank you no. They would be too modern

What about a subway tile in a light tone close to the color above the cabinets?

too many connecting rooms and it would work well with the color flow of the house. I just want to make sure my white tile and cabinets don’t have conflict

I think the last photo of white 2X10 white subways with a light gray grout would be just what you want. Clean and sophisticated

What do you think of this?

That arabesque is way too busy for your countertops. You really will be better served with a subway tile. - It's clean and classic.

I agree, seems like I got a lot of push back. I brought hone a grayish Tile. It’s not the right shade. The white 2x12 I brought home yesterda is much too white. We may have a few tile shops by us. I will venture out tomorrow

I agree with the person who told you to wait, Id paint the backsplash the wall colour, or do a grey subway tile. Subway tiles are simple, yet sophisticated and classic. Your choices are beautiful, but your countertop is the showpiece, don’t detract from it. Also, there is enough white, go darker on the backsplash, pull a dark colour from your counters. Good luck.

You will get pushback from people who want you to do something more modern or different. However, what's modern today is dated tomorrow. There are many here that don't like subway tile. I happen to love it. It never goes out of style and always looks good. However, in the end it's what you like.

I can relate to not quite wanting subway ( I think it's stunning really but just so common). I wonder if you have considered similar but in a hive or picket shape? It has a little more detail and interest than plain rectangle subway tiles.for example

oh and I left out that I think a lighter grout ( less contrast) is the way to go.

I like the subway tile with 1/16 and a super light shade of gray that matches the countertops. I'll see tomorrow if I can find a very light gray subway tile that matches the countertop. The white is nice too. I need to be careful not to go too dark as the kitchen is a bit on the small side. Thanks again everyone

https://www.arizonatile.com/en/products/looks-like/subway/islandia-glass I'm not suggesting the Chevron - We went with 4x12 Barbados. There are several colors here that may work. Shipping costs were reasonable for a 1000 mile journey. Not a broken piece. They will send free samples. I have a name of a person there if interested

Any tile with a grout line adds to the ‘busyness’. Have you consider back-painted glass in a neutral color? The counters are pretty and the glass would highlight them and not compete with them.

Thank you Wayne, I think any pattern is going to be too busy. The countertops are the showcase. Ellen, I've played with a few class pieces, they haven't matched very well. I've also heard that class is an installers nightmare?

if an installer thinks glass is a nightmare, then he isn't a qualified tile installer. I'm not a pro tiler but even I have tiled a backsplash and an entire shower w/glass. all you need is the right blade on your tile saw. not a big deal.

But you should know that any white glass tile is going to give off a cool minty green hue once it's installed. it's just the nature of the makeup. colored glass will hide it, but white won't.

I like the subway idea for your pretty kitchen.

The white subway tile you chose two days ago looks perfect, and you "truly love subway tile". So don't second guess yourself. Keep the focus on your gorgeous countertops.

Back painted glass is expensive and you do need a good glass installer; I just had it installed and I love it. used a standard color but they can custom make it for you. And color you choose Poke around Houzz photos you’ll see many pretty examples. Easy to clean too.

Your backsplash should MATCH one of the colors in the counter if you use a solid tile backsplash. If the color does not match, it will clash. It’s a simple as that.

You might check out the Bedrosians Cloe tile - it comes in both a white and a pale gray, has a nice variation while still being a basic subway tile, and looks great installed. It's also pretty easy to source.

Gray:

I like the thinner/longer subway tile if you can find the right shade of white (or the palest gray from your counter)

Solid subway tile will let your beautiful countertop be the star of the show. Anything else is too busy.
