My parents have a building bigger than that with only shop lights but plenty of natural lighting coming in. I think the concern would mainly be the glare and what quality of lighting you could get from shop vs. can. When I think of the two, I think of can lighting being a better quality light, though I'm sure that's not always the case. Seems to me the can lighting would be more attractive if you have the option to do that. If it's not a place where you need operating-room level lighting, the cans would probably get you by fine. Most lighting experts here at Houzz would recommend layers of light, so some up-lighting and down lighting and task lighting, like under-cabinetry lights. Your diagram isn't pulling up with great clarity on my small tablet screen very well, so I'm sorry I cannot offer input on the placement.

What is the lowest part of the ceiling? and if its vaulted you must use sloped ceiling recessed cans. That being said, I would start to look at this all together differently.

Getting the light to the ground is hard with tall ceilings, as light spreads as it flows down, I would not pick recessed lighting here, I would be suspending some very cool Led shop lights ( cable hung), in LED. And since now LED is fully dimmable you wouldnt need to bother with two types of lighting

I would look to adding wall lights around/within the bump-out seating areas so if you are watching the game you can really have the bar lights tv lights on.

Also consider under cabinet lights for the work bench areas. My other concern is where the lights will go to prevent extra shadowing when the car lift is up?

You can get very amazing looking led linear lights these days.
