I use acrylic twisted yarn as wicks and regular thin acrylic? fleece like what they sell for Halloween/xmas crafts. green is better then white/black, you can see salt accumulations on it, and when it needs washing. I think light colored ones start looking grimy quite fast. and on black you won't see mildew as well.

but it depends what kind of pot you use: if they have many holes in the bottom then you would not need a wick at all unless you alternate between mat wicking and single reservoir wicking.

So when you mentioned craft 'fleece' the first thing I thought of was the sheets of 8x11 acrylic felt that people use to make "busy books" for kids... is this what you were referring to?

I don't know what 'busy books' are either. but in most craft shops or in michaels they sell acrylic felt squares, that's the kind I use. except that I buy it by the yard in fabric shop.

i'm sure joann's has it. look for 'craft felt'.

Ask Irina, I think she suggested going to a thrift store and finding baby blankets. I bought some acrylic mats from Dollar Tree. They work fine. I used them for cuttings.

Yes I've tried it and I don't like it! Lol. Well its not working well with craft felt. It's not actually wicking. 🤷

You did run a thread wick thru the pot and then put the pot on top of the wick coiled on top of the felt? Rosie

all fabric has sizing in it when new. just as with yarn you need to wash it and rinse it to get rid of sizing. sizing makes it water-repellent.
