entryway decor

Hello All!

I’m seeking advice on what to do with this small farmers porch at our mud room entry. This is our homes primary entrance as most people do not use the front door. The space is small 68 x 38” in the area where the railing is. I never know what to do with the space (outside of holidays) so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Pictures attached...

^Yes...definitely a white door for that entrance. Maybe a plant in the corner under the window. Keep it simple so the focus goes to the main entry.

I have rotating welcome signs for different holidays and seasons. Such as:

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood...do you prefer that it gets more focus? If so, I'd still paint the door white. Houssaon's suggestion of a bench and hanging basket is nice.

Chloebud this doorway is utilized most so I would like to do something with it to make it more inviting. In the spring/summer I do put 2 hanging baskets of flowers. Also, in front is a small rock bed that a tall potted flower plant usually goes in. It’s just that corner seems so empty to the left of the door. Maybe a low bench with some pillows and a potted plant would help.

I like the red. it's obviously diff from the front door, and people know where it is, so I don't think painting it white is going to accomplish anything except make it look boring.

why don't you hang a few ferns? Maybe plant some red geraniums in the flower bed

You could also jazz up the porch by bringing in a colorful outdoor rug.

I'd also consider painting the ceiling of this porch black and installing some of those small string lights across the porch)

Beth, I did just order a buffalo plaid rug for the entry with a smaller doormat to layer on top :) I like the idea of lights but we already have pot lights in the ceiling. It’s that empty space to the left and under the window I struggle with. I’m going to try a backless bench with some pillows or maybe a lantern and plants. Maybe with the hanging plants and flowers in the bed it will work.

Place a flat backed market basket on the lower portion of door with some fun greenery/flowers and a black check bow. Bring in a black check door mat. Hang a red geranium basket. Bring in a black bench (couldn't place it on porch in mock up) with some cute outdoor pillows to tie it all together. If you don't have room on the porch for the bench it would be equally as charming in front of the white lattice to left of the stairs.

Thanks, Design Interior South! Pictures help so much to see the possibility.

Both red doors are absolutely stunning! They make the whole house connect. What stands out for me in a good way is the different styles of doors.

With the farmer's porch I would put a bench there to set things on while unlocking the door. Or to just sit for awhile. Nothing you put there will be seen from the road/street unless it's a hanging basket of flowers. The simpleness of the porch doesn't need decor.

Since you like buffalo check, there are a lot of buffalo check planters out there. I think one on each side of the front door (not on the farm porch) would be the icing on the cake with the red paint.

Here's an example of checked planters, kind of pricey, but if you google buffalo check/plaid planters, a ton of them show up.

    Beautiful home!

wjab, I get your wanting to make it more inviting. A bench would be nice, and I like DIS's suggestion of in front of the lattice...if the porch doesn't work.

a cute garden stool might work in the corner. they're small enough.

even if you have the light in the ceiling, painting it black and stringing the lights back and forth, or even just the perimeter, would have a beautiful effect at night. I have those little lights in solar and they put off some decent light at night.

found some hanging arrangements you could try

maybe you could hang a flower box over the rail (or do these in containers)

How about a railing planter? Easier to water than something hanging above your head. I think all the foundations across the front of the house should be unified in color.
