Here we managed to get through the hard frost period with minor damage, the green ash have had their flowers blasted but so far the rest of the plants look good. One day I would like to get a weeping white spruce also.

Still waiting for leaves to flush here. It's finally warm and steady warmth is predicted for the next couple of weeks. In April, my less hardy roses were showing signs of having made it through the winter but they don't look that great now after the horrendous first couple of weeks of May, even though i left the protection on. Maybe i should have covered them.

My roses did terribly. Most are growing back from the roots, though.

I think everything's come through, even though it went below -44C this winter. Even the wisteria, one of last year's "experiments" survived below the snowline, although I'm not sure how that happened.

Looking around more, it appears there’s more damage than I first anticipated. Perhaps it was the lingering spring cold after a warm up, or the sudden cold in the early fall? I’ll have to take a closer look at the recorded temps.

For example, I have roses Wasagaming and Snow Pavement which (usually tip hardy), have significant cane damage, these are away from the house. However seedlings I have of ‘Snow Pavement x Wasagaming’, planted against the house, are alive to the tips!

I have a compact Snow In Summer which looked very well when the snow thawed, but big sections of it gave dried off, same with my gold alyssum which was green after the snow melted, but dead now. Maiden pinks appear to be all dead. Geranium Rozanne is now gone, and allium Ambassador, although these both were getting weaker last year. Even a couple of roses I heavily covered and didn’t remove the mulch until May have mostly dead canes (Queen of Denmark and Tuscany).

We‘ve has a few frost warnings this past week, but now we finally had some good heat yesterday. Hopefully pulling plants in and out wont be needed anymore. It’s nearly the longest day of the year.
