Hi. Lots of potential here. One thing people neglect to do is to think of a deck as another room. So, here is what I recommend:

1) Turn the table the other direction, so that it is not in the doorway.

2) Unless you need the 2 swivel chairs on a regular basis, consider moving them to another area of the deck.

3) You need a rug large enough so that when chairs are pulled out, they stay on the rug. Good way to add some color.

4) I'd keep plants to the yard, if possible. Plants tend to add clutter to a deck.

To get more specific about color and other elements, I would need

1) Photos of other areas of the deck

2) What colors are in your home. (those should be brought to the outside)

3) Wind issues on the deck. If you have a lot of wind, an umbrella is not a good idea, even closed.

Thank you! We have a beige house with navy shutters, a play set in the backyard with a green awning. We tend to go with navy and green colors in our home and have revere pewter on the walls in most of the house. Here is a pic of our home with the door to the right being the door to goes to the deck. The deck does get some wind but in the afternoon the sun is pretty strong so we do need some sort of shade.

Your grill is in a good location. I would consider turning the storage box the other direction. Is that for grill items? You might consider buying a taller unit that is not as deep.....then keep it against the house.

Small tip.....Consider flipping your railing flower planters to the other side of the railing. As the flowers grow you will get lots of color and no one will bump into to them. I happen to be one of those people who would :-)

I agree the "window box" should hang over the outside. Also, it's more for a cute decoration than an actual container for plants. It simply doesn't have enough soil space to maintain plants in healthy condition. Look for serious deck rail planters that are much deeper.

IMO, a main feature that seems to be lacking from the deck, and that I would personally want, is shade. Especially that of a nice, nearby tree. If there's evening use, some subtle lighting would be nice. Other than that, there is not extra room to junk it up with stuff. Personally, I thought the table and chairs were fine as they were, and in the best orientation for the deck shape. While the rug would still look OK if it were larger, I would probably ditch it on account of it being a bother. The deck looks like maybe it is plastic. If it were wood, I'd ditch the rug on account of it holding moisture for longer.

The deck is small and cannot be filled with clutter. Draw the eye out and add plants where your grass meets the trees.

Thank you! We do have some beautiful landscaping in our backyard and we are slowly working our way to that part of the deck. I’m looking to make the deck a bit cozier for now. What colors for a rug do you suggest?
