Ewww. Yuck, Ken! Haha. Okay I will go look for a cutworm. I've never seen one of those here. I keep hoping it will leaf out again but it seems like whatever is eating it is relentless.

Doesn’t the ammonia or vinegar drench take care of cutworms as well as slugs?? Did you do your Spring drench?

I didn't do a spring drench. I haven't ever done one of those. I did buy a handy-dandy spray bottle specifically for that last year then never did it. I could try that! I just found it odd that whatever it is seems to favor this one specific little hosta over all the other nearby.

Cut worms are caterpillars, not slugs. The eggs are laid by the moth on some plant that will be a good food source for the baby. It takes about 2 weeks to go from moth egg to caterpillar to crysalis to moth. Usually, by the time you see the damage, the moth is already gone. The only treatment is BT (if you can still buy it).

I found no cutworm near this hosta. I can't get the image out of my mind now and think I see them everywhere now.
