Faucet Placement Problem

This the faucet on my soaking tub. Besides the obvious tile cut mistakes (tiles which our construction manager tells me will be redone), the plumber who installed the faucet agreed that the rough in was done too far back on the deck. Based on the that placement, the water appears ready to fall on the overflow slot and the wall of the tub around it, rather than into the tub. When I asked the construction manager, he said they will turn on the water this week, see how it works and then decide if it needs fixing. Is that a judgement call?? I want to pick my battles here, but this looks wrong to me. Thoughts?

Who would have thought cutting a square hole was easier than drilling a round hole??

Definitely wrong. Have it moved to the proposal location.

If this is a custom home and you own the lot and house, then no one else should decide where the faucet should be. The way it is, you are going to get water splashing all over the tub deck when you have the faucet fully open.

@chispa It is a condo, but we paid a tidy upcharge to put in my specific choice of tub and the faucets were also a considerable upcharge from the base level. My thought is exactly what you said: the water is going to go everywhere.

What it looks like is the bottom tile was put in backwards. Turning it the other way probably will give the clearance it is supposed to have.

Hmmm. I assumed the tile was cut to fit the roughed in faucet and handles?? Clearly not well, as the square cuts are a bad fit. There will be new tiles, per construction manager. I'm concerned with the faucet spout not extending far enough over the edge of the tub.

Looks to me like this faucet was not designed for a bathtub, or at least not for a drop-in. If the spout was closer it means that the handles will be closer to the tub as well, then when turning the handles to the on position may result in the handles touching the tub edge...

@Overland Remodeling & Builders Actually, it's a Roman Tub Filler and I looked at the handles yesterday. They are tall enough to clear the tub...the faucet and handles both need to be moved closer to the edge of the tub.

But Roman tub faucets are designed to be much closer to the edge of tub and the edge of the tub itself is usually narrower. You need a faucet for a drop in tub.

Perhaps a spout with a longer reach?

@mainenell This is actually designed for deck mount, so if it were placed correctly, there shouldn't be a problem. I have the same tub in my current home with a deck mounted Roman tub faucet. This is a plumbing/tile/installation problem IMO.

Thanks for the feedback, all. Tub has been removed, plumbing moved forward and tile will be replaced after tub is reinstalled. Someone is going to eat that mistake. Glad it's not me.
