My favorite did not disappoint this year

Great Expectations is big and beautiful this year. The one thing I will say about my experience with G.E. is that it doesn't seem to multiply. All of these leaves are from four eyes. This has pretty much been this way since 2015.

Last year I decided that because I love him so, I would buy another. So I did. We'll see how that one does. It's planted near this one.

popmama..I'm jealous..your GE has so many leaves!..mine looks short in this pic..I was standing over it trying to get a good pic of the whole plant..I should try to get a side shot..

why are the petioles so short???

i might suggest you find out if its planted too deep.. and if so.. dig it up and replant it properly ...

but dude.. just dont ... leave it alone ...

They don't seem short to me. Maybe it's the camera angle.

They both are awesome! I planted a nice one late last summer, and posted my concern a couple of days ago. People suggested I dig it up and put it in a pot. When I went to dig it out, the crown fell apart. Even though there were some viable roots (I think) there just wasn’t anything connected to it but a bit of plant based leaf fur. I thought, if I try GE again I will order from an online hosta store. Grrrrrrrrr!

Nice big plant. GE is so pretty if you can get it to grow. Mine seem to thrive on quite a bit of sun. One of mine put out an all green leaf this year - looks like Elegans. I divided it from GE and planted it, always room for one more.

popmama..thank you!..#1 is the same pic above where GE looks short..I posted it again to see it easily next to the side shot..#2 a side shot showing the petioles..are yours similar?..#3,4 is this another GE?..this one's in front near the driveway..no tag when I bought it..I nicknamed it "Half and Half" because it had variegated and solid leaves..

djacobz..I'm sorry about your GE..mine's alive but I'm still afraid of it..Lol..

MadPlanter1..I've read that GE is a sport of Elegans..I was thinking that my blue leaves with my "possible second GE" look like Elegans..

Wow nicholsworth, yours really is tall. And I see that it only has two crowns and yet looks very full when photographed from above.

G.E. was the first real 'named' hosta that I ever purchased. Since it's been in this spot for five years now, I figure it's happy there.

It does get a good amount of morning sun.

popmama..your GE looks very happy..no doubt mine could use more sun..all of my plants could Lol..you started with one of the most difficult hostas and were successful!..

Ugh-it makes me so sad that I ruined my last year. I'm going to have to get another one-you both have beautiful GE!!!
