I don't have Sagae. Comparing it to the hostalibrary.org photo, it doesn't appear to be Sagae. The color looks right, but the leaf shape doesn't look right. Also, your plant shows no undulation, as the ones in the hostalibrary.org do. (Your leaf is almost flat.) It is a sport of fluctuans, which as the same spade shape and undulations as it's sport (Sagae).

I'm sorry, I have no idea of what your plant might be. There are something like 8,000 different hosta, so sometimes they are hard to identify.

DK, I agree that your plant is not Sagae. That said, you have a lovely plant. It reminds me of Fantabulous, but I do not think that is it. It looks small-ish, not tall like Sagae. Do you think it could be Wolverine? Whatever it is, it is lovely and looks happy where it is.

Undertheoak, I, too, wondered if it was Wolverine, but aren't the Wolverine leaves even narrower? I have to look up Fantabulous now. By the way, I bought it at the Rutgers Garden sale so was surprised that it was misidentified.

I don’t think it’s Wolverine.... W doesn’t have such long narrow leaves and it has a more upright and a bit twisting in its structure. A bit later in the summer, it will open more but it does not have that somewhat splayed looking mound that yours seem to have.

I looked at Hosta Library and wonder if my plant is Virginia Reel? Any thoughts on that?

I don’t know that hosta, some forum members probably do....it was introduced in 1995. Not sure how widely available it is. You can also do a goggle search or search in the hosta stores to find comparisons.

Virginia Reel is a small hosta, 8 in tall and 12 in wide in ideal conditions.

For years we thought we bought a Sagae but while weeding this week I found a very old nursery tag which says it’s Regal Splendor. It’s ok but not what I would buy today. It used to be quite large at least 36-40 inches wide but it’s much smaller this year as are some of my other Hostas.

Thanks, djacobz. undertheoaks, that is about the size of the hosta I have. It's about 6 inches high and about 12 inches wide. I've had it for about 4 years and had been confounded as to why it wasn't getting as large as Sagae promises to be.
