Looks like one of the Brome (Bromus) grasses. They are considerable less attractive after you have spent what seems half a lifetime removing the dried seed heads from your socks.

My guess would be Bromus sterilis, an invasive pest species.

Don't be fooled. It may be attractive, but that's just to pull you into its deadly grip..... :)

Thank you to all. I believe you are correct. I was afraid it might be invasive and you are correct that it is. Cheatgrass. Next year I'll try to start eradicating it...

You can start now by mowing it during the summer. That will maybe prevent the seeds to develop.
