The hall should be an "introduction" to your living area. Without knowing those colors or style, it's difficult to pick a paint. Consider adding large mirrors on the long wall. Consider switching the can lights for decorative light fixtures.

Hi Susan, thanks for the suggestions! I've included a photo of the staged living/dining/kitchen area that the entry leads to. Our furnishing will be different, but structurally everything else will remain the same.

HI -- If you up graded the can lighting to L.E.D. you would get a better brighter pure light . Adding some light wall sconces along the hall would also help. Put everything on dimmers for when you don't want the bright lights. Or you could add track lighting instead of the pot lights. Adding some mirrors and some big colorful art will bring some life to the space .

Perhaps you could repeat the geometry of the windows on the long wall using dark wood molding to mimic the lines in the window and mirrors to mimic the glass. It would keep a clean modern look while reflecting light. It can be just a portion of the wall, not the whole way. If you like the metal track lighting in the staged photo, you can repeat that fixture in the hallway and have it focus on art/ There's plenty of space for both art and a mirror wall.

Lighting....gallery type directional lighting that is aimed at coordinating works of art. I'd do two or three large framed prints or unframed paintings on canvas. Clean and simple.

I would suggest that you turn this hallway into a sort of art gallery by displaying your favorite framed photos, other art, and mirrors on the dark wall. I agree with another poster that wall-mounted lights would give some style and illumination to the area.
