That's great! I've watched the Blue Jays do it but not the hummers.

I know! I have other little boxes full of nest material and I watch chickadees gather a lot. But I have never seen a hummingbird collecting. I saw her again this morning. I really need to try to set up my camera to capture her on film!

HU-233703282 (hope I got that right), my dad's wife cuts his hair at home and they put his hair in those bags for the birds too. But he says he's never seen a hummingbird take any.

I don’t know why HU-—— showed. I don’t see a place to enter my name. Anyway, the hummers have hovered by the dog hair and pulled at it 8-10 times with beaks full of hair before flying away. I hope they return for more next year. Amazing creatures!

I started collecting the fur from my 4 cats, as well as pieces of fabric like the one in popmama’s basket that we’re getting blown around the yard. I think those pieces where from a squirrel nest that was abandoned. Now, I am not sure where I put the bag!!! :-|

As recent as a month ago I saw a hummer take dog hair from the net on my deck. I’m in New Westminster, BC. I wonder if they’re nesting or just roosting this time of year. Today I saw the brightest green hummer. Most of the ones that feed here have red on top of their heads. Such good entertainment!
