Where in Minnesota? If Emerald Ash Borer is there, the ash trees may not be for long. A weeping hemlock would handle the shade now and the sun later if it comes to that. I’d go with the serviceberry behind the box.

We have those electrical boxes all over our condo complex. Here's how they handle them: they put a fence directly around them (in a color that matches the condos).

I'd install 3' high lattice 3' away from the boxes on 3 sides and plant vines at the base of the lattice. Weave it in as it grows. Don't give the guys who need access to those boxes any excuse to destroy their covers.

whatever you do.. be careful digging around those boxes ...

i just had a phone cable installer cut my internet/tv/phone cable ... crikey ,... with no tv all night.. we had to talk to each other ... lol ...
