I think a mat larg enough to step on and remove your shoes IMO the one you have there is too big but I would like to see the whole space .

This is the whole space. So you think a 2x3 is ok? Blue white large one is 4x6. And second pic is a 2x3.

In process of redoing stairs so don’t judge the banister!

Just get a small mat. Or install a custom runner down the stairs and continue it in the foyer and hallway. Otherwise, a larger rug might be a tripping hazard.

I would probably not use a mat inside the door, only outside. I don’t really think the mat inside the door is necessary. If I wanted it for design purposes, to enhance entry, I would use a runner that extended through the entire hallway.
