Two points. Liberty is better than any of the hostas in any of your beds. So put it in the best spot. Don't just fit it in. The second point is it can take a lot of sun.

I love hearing that because I also ordered a Giantland sized one from LOTG. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Along with Giantland Marilyn and Giantland Elegance, I cut a whole new bed!

I have 2 Libertys in southwestern sun in NJ and they are doing beautifully.

ETA: I'm looking at the other photos on this thread and wondering if mine is actually a Sagae. Bought as Liberty though :-(

I love Liberty. I do remember that Chris from Hallson's said that it should not be moved once planted. I had thought of moving it, but when I found that out, I never did. It took several years before I said "WOW!" to how it looked. It gets a few hours of morning sun. It was worth waiting for. It is in my front garden so I have people tell me how lovely it looks. So last year I bought another one! (Currently in a pot until I find a spot for it.)

I bought 3 of the liberty in 2014 and finally seeing the results.. Hoping I have placed them in the proper lighting to get the best results . This was 2019 I love them

dkgelm5 , I think you figured out that you do have sagae and not Liberty which has a much wider yellow margin. But fear not==>>>Sagae is considered on of the best hostas to have. I just ordered one last night! I am currently awaiting delivery on Liberty and a bunch of others!

That`s exactly how I feel about Liberty, almosthooked. Lucky you that you have all that space to grow three to maturity. When I look at my immature Liberty, I know I have to give it time. This is one of those hostas that are worth the wait.

I did receive it today...yes finally! And nice and healthy! I soaked, planted, watered and shaded it as it is so blasted hot out!! I’ll try not to baby it too much...: )

My Liberties are my favorites. Full eastern sun till about 1 pm, north Missouri zone 5b.

OK...even upside down Liberty is a standout in my garden. Sorry. I have three, all with different sun conditions, and they all seem happy. However...I did move one of them about 3 years ago and it hasn’t forgiven me yet.

And...a caution....all three suffered more frost damage in that crazy mid-May weather in southern Ontario...than most others. Those bright yellow edges seem to be particularly prone to damage.

I am concerned about the area I want to plant mine now......the bed gets morning, about 7:30-8 until about 1:30 or so eastern facing before shade from the house starts to cover it. I planted my new little Plantaginea in this same bed and it is looking a bit burned I think. Any thoughts?

The mulch isn’t fully spread as there is dirt that need moving.

djacobz, I may be wrong, but perhaps plantaginea needs time to adjust to more sun? If it was in shade and was moved into sun, it hasn't become accustom to the increase of sunlight? If I were to move a hosta growing in shade/partial shade into a lot more sun, I would move it early spring or early fall. That way it can get used to the change in light intensity and duration of sunlight. And, of course, it will need a lot more water.

Having said all that, I think that would be a great spot for Liberty.

My Liberty was up and unfurled very early this year. Luckily, it is near the house and the cold weather didn't bother it. It is simply a gorgeous hosta that is a star in anyone's garden.

Thanks newhostalady, I decided, in that short period of time, (I’m impulsive) to move it a bit further over in the bed as I ado believe it was also getting hit by too much southern sun. Now it’s in the same conditions, but will not receive that extra hour of direct southern sun. Thanks for your response. I do forget that when receiving mail order plants, it’s not the same as when you purchase them at the garden center. I am new to online ordering.

Here on the bottom left is the newly planted Liberty... along with the plants that will need to be moved lol. This bed was just recently expanded (which I said I wouldn’t do again), and I think it will be a perfect spot.

Looking at this pic, I realise I now need one more for the other side of the path..to balance it out of course, so I ordered it : )

The poor thing had a rough start, as a mole sniffed out the loose soil and tunneled right through the roots😡. I promptly filled it back in and have been keeping a Hawkeye on it.

I’m really looking forward to watching this grow. I know it will take quite some time...but I’m patient.
