Jan, far as I'm concerned it's 'Fortunei Albopicta', or just plain 'Albopicta'. You can tell it's in the Fortunei family by looking at the back of the leaves: they're glaucous. On top of that being a typical Fortunei variety it breaks ground after the Undulatas for me. Here's a picture of mine:

And yes indeed, bkay, it does green-up as the season goes on. The above picture was shot on the 17th, below is a picture of the same plant last year on June 6th....

Wow, it's pretty. It really improves with the season, Pieter. Fortunei Albopicta is in the hosta library and it looks just like yours.

That first photo has that twisted look of Undulata, though. On closer look at jan's hosta, the leaves are not strap-shaped like the Undulata.

I didn't take Latin in school, so why would a plant be named "albopicta"?

i always seemed to observe.. that fortunei were longer than wider in leaf shape.. enough to always catch my eye anyway ... plus that little curl/flare at the tip ...

So Jan, is the back of the leaf glossy or glaucous?

The leaf backs are less glossy than my other undulatas, but not glaucous like fortunei albomarginata. It also more resembles the other undulatas in size and substance of both leaves and plant. It does get green later in the season. I was quite happy to call it an undulata until I tried to find it in the hosta library!

Jan, I did a bit more digging and ran across 'Paleface' which is out of 'Undulata Univittata' and it undergoes a seasonal colour change but more like misting. Take a peek at it in the HL.

Thanks Peiter. But this one doesn’t start out white centered.i have univittata which looks a lot like ‘Paleface’ and it is quite different than ‘unknown’.
