Unfortunately, blinds are not considered blackout. if you are looking to have no light in the room. Then I suggest installing blackout draperies. You can outside mount the drapery panels and they can add a nice design element to the space with the existing blinds. But then close them shut when you want to block light. You can buy blackout thru many retailers that have decorative patterns too.
