What is the temperature in the room? If it is too cold it could cause the dehumidifier to shut off.

@mike_home I don't think it's too cold. It's 70 degrees in the basement right now with 60% humidity. This thing usually runs in the winter fine.

Check to see if the water full light is on. Sometimes the water basin is not positioned properly causing the unit to think the basin if full. This shouldn't happen if you are pumping out the condensate. Make sure you didn't trip the circuit breaker and the unit has power.

These units are very cheaply made in China. It would not be surprising if the unit failed after one year of use.

It would be great if you could tell if the issue was resolved. I am facing the same issue. It’s true the GE ones are junk!

Our Sears dehumidifier lasted about 15 years, but the ones which came after have never lasted more than a year or two. One didn’t even last 2 months. When we bought another one about 5 years ago, we bought the insurance for about $35 as I recall. When that one died, Home Depot refunded our purchase price and we bought our current one, along with another insurance policy. Crossing our fingers, were on our 3rd season.

We felt the insurance coverage was cheap enough, and these units are unreliable enough, to make it a good idea.

Good point about the extended warranty with these cheap Chinese dehumidifiers.

I gave up an filed an Extended Warranty claim using my AMEX card

We bought a GE about 15 months ago and I think it stopped doing anything about a week after the 1 year warranty ran out. We are trying a Danby this time. But as others have said, they used to last a long time. Now they are virtually disposable. Very frustrating.
