Nice group of patterns Debra. I think I grew Aerial Applique years ago but it did not produce a lot of blooms here nor increase well. I'd have to go back to my other computer and check my Photos of Lambertsons I grew here.

Have the deer stayed away with "bounce"?

Julia - Yes, the deer have stayed away for the most part. For now, the Bounce strips and some Vicks Vapor Rub were just the prescription for this rainy week. However, the Vicks Vapor Rub that Kate recommended burned plant parts and dried up buds I put it on. I think the Vicks does keep animals at bay. But next time I'm going to just smear some on some stakes strategically placed throughout the gardens. I did notice some buds chewed off from just emerging scapes. I think that's more likely rabbits or groundhogs. I've also broken a few scapes while weeding and mulching, and some scapes blasted during the two days of torrential rain.

Well, I did say I had not tried the Vick’s treatment!! :) I read that on the Manatawny Creek Nursery website as a tip. Good to know about the burning of the buds although I am sorry it happened to yours!!! And a great idea about putting it on stakes instead. I will remember that. So sorry about the bud loss, Debra.

Kate - The Vicks was a good idea, and I was desperate during all the rain in the past week. I was pretty shocked when I saw the burns and bud problems, but I don't blame you for it. I know you said you heard about it from a nursery owner. I saw on a Houzz hosta thread where a gardener slathered the rub on short pieces of bamboo stakes that she placed among each of her hosta's leaves. I have some bamboo and plastic stakes. I think for daylily protection, they need to be about the same heiight as the buds. I'm also toying with the idea of putting wind chimes in some of the gardens. Not only would they move and make noise, Vicks could be slathered on them too.

Yes, Debra, since that was a PA nursery where I read the tip, they probably don't have our temps this early that can cause such burn-again, sorry for not thinking of that and I should have because neem oil has a similar cautionary statement about the temperature when you use it. But I like the idea of the stakes and may try that too. I have sprayed the Bobbex this year but with all our rains, I don't know how long that is effective. I put some wind chimes last year in my garden that is farthest from my house but noticed this year with all our storms, the chimes are tangled into one hot mess. It's always something!!! Good luck with the fight.
