What’s with the screwed up threads on RMG???

Is anybody else seeing this mess? I just checked out the Iris thread, and it's ALL messed up!

Somebody, for no discernible reason that I can see, picked a “best reply,” which gets that reply all out of context—and how can there be a “best reply” on a thread that exists primarily for posting pics?!! Who on earth decided what “the best reply" was!?? I’ve seen this on some other threads, and since most of our threads are “conversations,” it TOTALLY messes with the continuity of that conversation!

Any reply that’s more than a few lines long is truncated so you have to constantly click on “more” to see the whole thing!

And the tread itself is truncated, and when I tried to click “more” to see the whole thing, it demanded that I sign in to see the entire thread! I don’t sign in unless I have something to post! Apparently from here on out I’m not gonna be able to read “entire threads,” ‘cause I have no intentions of signing in just to read! Who ever heard of a forum that makes you sign in to read???

We’ve already lost many of our members on RMG with the switch to houzz, and with this mess who knows what’ll happen now! If it stays like that I will definitely be less inclined to even come to read!

More! Now that I'm signed in to post this, the individual posts aren't truncated anymore, but the thread itself still is--and the "best reply" isn't there anymore--or, I'm not sure if it is or not! It's not called that now, but since they don't date and time things I don't know what the "original" first reply was! I won't be signing in just to read--at least not very often!

I haven't seen that before, but it sounds like a terrible user experience! I wonder if they're "experimenting" (A/B Testing) on you...

Skybird, same here. But also seeing it on the Roses threads. I think they are experimenting with a new software release and it isn't handling the longer threads well. Signing in does seem to help but trying to read them without signing in is a recipe for frustration. The threads can't be deciphered at all, even with changing the sort order to try and get it to sort the posts in order of posting.

Not sure where the "best reply" feature came from but it's certainly not one of my favorites. It seems though that all it does is "duplicate" the reply and put a copy of it at the top, so I have just been ignoring them and reading through the rest of the thread which is still "in order."

I haven't noticed any "read more" but on some of the long threads it only shows the most recent replies and there is a button at the top to read all the previous ones. That isn't so bothersome to me when there's threads of HUNDREDS of replies and sometimes can take forever to load, especially if there as a lot of pictures. I had to dip out of one of the ones in "native plants" because it takes FOREVER to load.

When I am signed into Houzz I am having the same issue. When I signed in through gardenweb I didn’t.

Yea, it is little off-putting. I'm noticing that now the most recent comment is at the top of the thread, instead of the bottom. That part I like. But having to click Read More on longer comments is bothersome.

Now I'm having a neat issue of some of my replies not showing up AT ALL! I hit submit, it shows up, but it doesnt say anything new has been posted to the thread. If I click on the thread, it shows up, but if I'm signed out, it's gone! How very, very aggravating.
