Passionflower in a pot?

I like passiflora incarnata for the butterflies and bees, but it took over my backyard at my previous house here in central NC. Multiple shoots came up everywhere, in the yard 25 feet away, etc. A nightmare. I'd love to grow them in a buried pot if I knew I could limit their spread. Is this possible, or is this like the fabled Yeti where people talk about it but never successfully do it? And how do I do it?

Or should I focus on a better-behaved type than p. incarnata that still feeds the butterfly larva and help pollinators? Any suggestions?
