I just started a listing on HMF about this rose, but at the moment, it won't let me add any more photos. So I'll try to put some additional ones here. We've grown this rose for a good number of years. It was given to us by one of my alumni, Mike Pursell, who remembers buying it from the Giles Rose Nursery, in Haines City Florida, as they were closing (guessing 15 years ago???). He thought it was one of Diann's seedlings from her breeding work, but I've asked her about that, and she doesn't think they included any of her stuff in the closing sale, nor does she remember this rose. Another possibility is that it is an older HT (or Bourbon??) whose name has been misplaced. In any case, it's a great rose, and I'd like to know what it is, if it does have a legit. name. It's growing like a compact HT. Flowers are dark red, with black on the older petals (as always for such roses, a color photo does not do it justice). Fragrance is heavy, delightful damask. It sets hips freely. In addition to the smallish, black-red flowers, a typical characteristic is the way it leaves a "cone" of tight petals in the center after other petals have flattened out. That does eventually pop open fully, but there is a stage where the cone is clearly seen.

So any educated guesses out there will be appreciated!
