Sunday's few blooms

Actually one was from yesterday, Fern Stone. Fern is about a 3rd of here height this year, and only 8 blooms among its 3 fans. On the plus side, of the 2 blooms it has had, they have been remarkably nice. Usually the 1st few are abominable

Yellow Monkey

Yellow Monkey shot up one scape quite early, it is taller than normal. Last week it started putting out more scapes that seem like they will be about half the height. Small fans though, I almost lost this one to crown rot 2018 so 1st year bloom for those fans. I had De Colores and Pawprints on my Heart bloom today, but they look bad. Delimma took 3 days to open and looks reall awful so no photos of those. Stella's Ruffled Fingers is blooming, and started with several blooms, but I forgot to get a picture. I do have a photo of a seedling I have had several years. It has actually bloomed several days ago, nothing really to look at, but one year it bloomed and bloomed. The last 2 years not so much. Maybe these cool springs get to it since it is an early

Blooming is really going now. That is a very nice Fernstone and yo are right about the first few blooms. I like your Yellow Monkey too, Nancy.

Fern Stone is looking good! You might want to consider slug attacks on both Fern and Yellow Monkey. The two characteristics of plants where slugs have eaten the roots are short scapes and low bud counts. The seedling is a pretty one to have blooming so early, and Prickly Sensation has an attractive bloom.

I agree!! Fern Sone is looking wonderful! Such pretty color. And Yellow Monkey looks bright and happy!! So glad your season is underway.

I like your seedling, Nancy, extra point for an early bloomer! I agree with the others, Fernstone looks great both days, no sign of scapes on mine yet.

Really nice pictures of them all. Hard to pick a favorite, but Prickly Sensation looks good with that edge, so it wins by a nose........I don't know if you suffered from up/down spring temperatures but that can also affect scape height. The blooms though are still very pretty...........Maryl

Thanks everyone! Debra, I will try something for slugs. I have been assuming that Fern Stone's problem is some daffs that have multiplied into the roots, but could be slugs. And as Maryl said, we have had up/down temps too, but Fern Stone definitely needs help.

Prickly Sensation is such a pretty flower, but I am not sure how much it likes me. I got it once and it died after a year after blooming really well. Tried it again in a different spot, part of it died, and I moved it. So far so good, but if this one doesn't make it, I won't try again. I know it has done well for people north and south of me, so I assume it just does not like me personally.
